2. Website hosting and server logs

This website is hosted using GitHub Pages, a service provided by GitHub, Inc. When the website is accessed, GitHub may process technical information required to deliver the requested pages and to maintain the security and stability of the service. This includes the visitor's IP address, which GitHub states is logged and stored for security purposes.

The processing is based on Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. The legitimate interest is the secure, reliable and efficient provision of this website. Further information is available in GitHub's privacy statement.

If you contact me by email, I process your email address, the content of your message and any other information you provide in order to respond to your request. Depending on the nature of the request, the legal basis is Article 6(1)(b) GDPR or Article 6(1)(f) GDPR.

Messages are deleted when they are no longer required, unless legal retention obligations or the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims require longer storage.

4. Privacy-friendly analytics with GoatCounter

This website uses GoatCounter to understand in aggregate how often the website and its individual pages are visited, how visitors reach the website and which technical environments are commonly used. GoatCounter is operated by Martin Tournoij in Ireland.

Depending on the settings enabled for this website, GoatCounter processes the requested page, referrer information, browser and operating system derived from the User-Agent header, screen size, country and browser language. The full User-Agent header and IP address are not stored in the analytics database.

To distinguish visits within a session, GoatCounter temporarily combines the site name, IP address and User-Agent in memory for up to eight hours and assigns a randomly generated session identifier. This mapping is not stored permanently. Individual pageviews are not stored; the statistics are retained in aggregated form.

GoatCounter does not set analytics cookies and does not use local storage or other persistent identifiers in the visitor's browser. The hosted GoatCounter service stores data on servers operated by Hetzner Online GmbH in Germany and Finland.

The processing is based on Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. The legitimate interest is to measure the general use of this website and improve its content and technical presentation without creating user profiles or tracking visitors across websites.

This website may contain links to external websites. The respective providers are responsible for their content. External links are checked when they are added. If I become aware of unlawful content, the affected link will be removed.

No personal data is transferred to those providers merely because a link is displayed. Once you follow an external link, the privacy policy of the respective provider applies.
